MANAGING/COACHING CAREER

Named Phillies pitching coach on 12/1/17... Originally joined the Phillies as bullpen coach on 10/21/15 and then had role changed to assistant pitching coach for 2017... Spent 5 years (2011-15) as MIL's pitching coach... In 2012, MIL's pitching staff finished with 1,402 SO, which was the 2nd-highest total in ML history (2003 CHI - 1,404)... Served as pitching coach for both FLA (2006-07) and BAL (2008-10)... Named ML Coach of the Year by Baseball America in 2006 after his FLA staff became the first in ML history to have 4 rookies with at least 10 wins each: Josh Johnson (12-7), Scott Olsen (12-10), Ricky Nolasco (11-11) and Anibal Sanchez (10-3)... Spent 22 years (1984-2005) in CHI's organization as a coach at both the major and minor league levels... Managed one season (2003) for Daytona (A)... Had stints as the ML assistant pitching coach (1996-98; 2000-01) and bullpen coach (2002) for CHI... Coached in the minor leagues at Pikeville (R, 1984), Winston-Salem (A, 1985-86), Wytheville (R, 1987), Peoria (A, 1988-89), Charlotte (AA, 1990-91), Iowa (AAA, 1992; 1999; 2004-05) and Orlando (AA, 1993)... Worked 2 seasons (1994-95) as CHI's minor league pitching coordinator.

PITCHING CAREER

Originally drafted in 1977 by STL (January) and LAD (June), but opted to remain in college... Was a 4th-round selection by MIL in 1979 and pitched 5 seasons (1979-83) in their minor league system... Pitched 2 seasons (1984-85) in CHI's minor league system.

PERSONAL

Richard Alan Kranitz… Married, wife's name is Kelly; has four children: daughters Paige, Christin and Allie, and son Matthew… Graduate of Apollo High School (AZ)… Attended Yavapai Junior College (AZ) and was a member of the school's 1977 National Championship team… Also attended Oklahoma State University for two years.
