Hired as the Phillies catching coach on 10/21/15; had title changed to bullpen coach following the 2016 season...Has 24 years of ML coaching experience with TOR (1986-90), BOS (1991), CIN (1992), SEA (1999-2002; 2007), TB (2003-05), WSH (2010-11) and PHI (2016); went to the playoffs 5 times, including 4 division titles...Worked for 12 years as a bench coach, 7 as a third base coach and 5 as a bullpen coach...Coached 14 seasons under manager Lou Piniella for 3 different teams: CIN, SEA and TB...Spent 4 years (2012-15) as a pro scout for OAK...Was field director for MLB's European Academy in 2009...Managed SEA from 7/2/07 to 6/19/08, first as interim manager and then full-time...Spent 2006 as a special assignment scout for TB...Served as manager of Team China in the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classics and 3rd base coach for Team USA in the 2006 WBC...Managed for 8 years (1978-85) in TOR's minor league system...Led Kinston (A) to the first-half Carolina League title in 1981...Guided Knoxville to the Southern League championship in back-to-back seasons (1984-85)...Named the SL's Co-Manager of the Year in 1985...Worked as a coach for Utica (R) in 1977...Managed in winter ball for 9 years in Colombia (1981-82) and Venezuela (1984-87; 1993; 1997-98)...Coached Canada in the 1977 World Cup

McAvery Award for outstanding contributions to professional baseball in Kinston, NC, in 1981… Inducted into the Kinston Hall of Fame in 1991… Won the Neil Ridley Award for excellence from Knoxville in 1986… Won the Milo Hamilton Community Service Award from the RBI Foundation of Houston in 2000.
