Castro, Utley turn spectacular double play

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Phillies turned one of the more memorable double plays fans will see this season in the third inning Tuesday at AT&T Park.

San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval hit a first-pitch breaking ball from Jamie Moyer up the middle with Edgar Renteria on first base with one out. Philllies shortstop Juan Castro, moving to his left, fielded the two-hopper and flipped the ball underneath his body to second baseman Chase Utley as he fell to the dirt. Utley stood on second base, stretching to catch the ball with his bare hand.

Utley turned and threw to first. First baseman Ryan Howard picked the ball out of the dirt and first-base umpire Kerwin Danley ruled Sandoval out for a spectacular inning-ending double play.

Replays showed Sandoval actually beat the throw from Utley, but the exchange from Castro to Utley set the play apart.
