Phillies claim Jerome Williams off waivers


The Phillies have claimed right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams off waivers from the Texas Rangers, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

Williams, 32, appeared in 28 games for the Rangers this season going 2-5 with a 6.71 ERA. A veteran of 11 Major League seasons, Williams set career-highs in games (37), starts (25), innings pitched (169.1) and strikeouts (107) last season with the Los Angeles Angels.

To make room for Williams on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Sean O'Sullivan was designated for assignment.
