Don't miss the 2014 Stephen Starr-Garry Maddox Barbecue Challenge!

There will be plenty of smoke and plenty of fire along Citizens Bank Way on Saturday, August 9, when pitmasters and Philadelphia area restaurants light up their grills for the Stephen Starr-Garry Maddox Barbecue Challenge. Presented by Hatfield Quality Meats, the thirteenth annual Barbecue Challenge is open to the public from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and offers something for everyone.

Sample great food from Baby Blues BBQ, Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill, Bull's BBQ, Butcher and Singer, Carolina Blue, Continental Mid-town, Continental Restaurant + Martini Bar, El Camino Real, El Rey, El Vez, Famous Dave's, Hard Rock Cafe Philadelphia, McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon, Parc, Pod, Rubb, Taqueria Feliz, Village Whiskey, and XFINITY Live! Philadelphia. Then cast your vote to determine the People's Choice Award winners!

Philadelphia's own Secretary of Defense, Garry Maddox, and the team from Hatfield Quality Meats will also be serving up ribs for the public, and don't forget to look for Garry's former teammate and BBQ competitor Greg Luzinski right next door at the Bull's BBQ stand. You can also show your support for the next generation of culinary talent by sampling ribs from the culinary arts programs at A. Phillip Randolph High School and Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia. Tasting tickets can be purchased on site (one for $5.00 or three for $10.00) and can be redeemed at stands along the event's Restaurant Row while supplies last.

In addition to the restaurants, this event also features 45 pit master teams, a cornhole tournament (visit www.garrysbbqchallenge.org to sign up), performances by the Give and Take Jugglers, face painting, a Turkey Hill ice cream stand, the Bud Bar, a game area with foosball, pop-a-shot, air hockey, and speedpitch, and more. Some lucky fans will walk away with great raffle prizes including a Jimmy Rollins autographed bat, a Chase Utley autographed ball, passes to the Adventure Aquarium or Speed Raceway, and much more. For additional details, please visit www.garrysbbqchallenge.org.

For directions and parking information, or for tickets to that evening's Phillies' game, please visit the Phillies website. All proceeds from the Barbecue Challenge benefit Compete 360, an organization founded by Garry Maddox to support the education and development of urban youth. The Barbecue Challenge could not take place without the generous support of the following sponsors: Hatfield Quality Meats, STARR Restaurants, Phillies Charities, Inc., Aramark, Turkey Hill Dairy, SportsRadio 94WIP, KYW Newsradio 1060, 98.1 WOGL, Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, and CBS Sports Radio 610 AM.
