PHILADELPHIA -- If all goes according to plan with Cliff Lee's rehab start at Class A Advanced Clearwater on Monday, the southpaw will make his return to the Phillies' rotation on Monday, July 21, Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said Sunday.
Sandberg had said Saturday that he had "an idea" about what the starting rotation would look like following the All-Star break but would wait to see how Lee fared in his rehab start before making any announcements.
But a day later, Sandberg seemed confident that Lee would not endure any setbacks, and he slated him for the series opener against the San Francisco Giants at Citizens Bank Park. Sandberg also revealed the rest of his post All-Star break rotation plans: A.J. Burnett will start things off in the second half on Friday, followed by Cole Hamels and Kyle Kendrick in a three-game set against the Braves at Turner Field.
Roberto Hernandez will follow Lee and take the second game of the series with the Giants.
