Over 250 young women from the tri-state region will have the chance to compete in front of college scouts at the Phillies Softball Carpenter Cup, which begins Monday, June 23 and runs through Thursday, June 27 at FDR Park.
The area's top high school softball players will play in the four day, 30-game tournament, which features 16 teams representing 17 different leagues.
"The Softball Carpenter Cup tournament gives local female athletes a chance to demonstrate their skills on the field," said Meghan Essman, Director, Fan Development & Educational Programs, The Phillies. "It continues to be a vehicle for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities."
Games begin at 9:00 a.m. each day and feature free admission and parking. All games are played at FDR Park softball fields five and six (with the entrance located on Pattison Avenue just off Broad Street).
The inaugural tournament took place in June of 2005 with Delaware Gold (South) claiming the first title. Delaware South took the title last year.
