Phillies Carpenter Cup Classic begins Thursday, June 12

High school ballplayers across the region will have the chance to compete in front of major league scouts and college coaches during the 29th annual Phillies Baseball Carpenter Cup Classic, being held Thursday, June 12, until Friday, June 20, 2014.

Recognized nationally as one of the finest baseball tournaments for high school students, the 15-game Carpenter Cup Classic culminates with the semi-final and championship games being played at Citizens Bank Park.

Preliminary rounds will be played at Ashburn Field in FDR Park in South Philadelphia until Tuesday, June 17. The semi-final and championship title games will be played at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20. Last year's Carpenter Cup Classic champion was Mercer County.

The Phillies also host a Softball Carpenter Cup, where top high school softball players get the chance to compete in front of college scouts. This four day, 30-game double-elimination tournament begins on Monday, June 23, at FDR Park. ABOUT THE PHILLIES CARPENTER CUP CLASSIC
The Phillies Carpenter Cup began in 1986 and continues to be a vehicle to help promote the top area baseball players. The Softball Carpenter Cup began in 2005. Each year more than 600 high school players from the tri-state area are able to showcase their skills in front of major league scouts (baseball only) and nearly 100 college coaches. The Carpenter Cup has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities.
