October 5
1950: Joe DiMaggio homers leading off the 10th inning to give the Yankees a 1-0 win over Robin Roberts at Shibe Park in World Series Game 2.
1977: Dusty Baker's grand slam keys a 7-2 Dodgers win in LA in Game 2 of the NLCS.
1978: Tommy John blanks the Phillies on four singles, 4-0, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 NLCS lead.
1983: Fernando Valenzuela picks up the win, 4-1, as Dodgers tie the NLCS at one game apiece. The scene shifts to the Vet.
2008: Homers by Pat Burrell, Jimmy Rollins and Jayson Werth propel the Phillies to a 6-2 win in Milwaukee in Game 4 of the NLDS, sending the Phillies to the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

October 6
1950: Phillies suffer seventh straight one-run World Series loss, this one 3-2 at Yankee Stadium.
1978: Steve Carlton drives in four runs and strikes out eight as Phillies stayed alive in NLCS with a 9-4 win at Dodger Stadium.
1993: Kim Batiste drives in John Kruk with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th, a 4-3 decision over the Braves in the NLCS opener.
2007: The Rockies eliminate the Phillies in three straight with a 2-1 win at Coors Field in the NLDS. Shane Victorino's homer in the seventh ties the game, but Colorado scores an eighth-inning run on three straight singles.

October 7
1950: Yankees sweep the Wolrd Series in four games with a 5-2 win behind starter Whitey Ford.
1977: A gut-wrenching Phillies loss, as the Dodgers score three in the top of the ninth for a 6-5 win in NLCS Game 3 at Veterans Stadium.
1978: Bill Russell's 10th-inning single gives the Dodgers a 4-3 win, denying the Phillies of a World Series appearance for the third straight October.
1980: Greg Luzinski's two run homer in 6th gives the Phillies a 3-1 win over Houston in NLCS Game 1. It's their first post season win at home since World Series Game No. 1 on Oct. 8, 1915
1981: Montreal (second-half champs) beat the Phillies (first-half champs), 3-1, in Game 1 of NL Division Playoffs.
1983: Gary Matthews drives in four runs as Phillies win, 7-2, at the Vet to take a 2-1 NLCS lead over the Dodgers.
1993: Atlanta hits four home runs in 14-3 romp, tying the NLCS at 1-1 with series shifting to Atlanta.

October 8
1915: Grover Cleveland Alexander throws a complete-game eight-hitter to give the Phillies their first World Series victory, 3-1, over the Boston Red Sox at the Baker Bowl.
1977: Tommy John defeats Phillies, 4-1, in the rain at the Vet, sending the Dodgers to their third straight World Series.
1980: Astros score four in 10th inning to win at the Vet, 7-4, and even the NLCS at 1.
1981: Montreal takes a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Division Series with a 3-1 win at Olympic Stadium.
1983: Phillies gain revenge for 1 11 regular season record vs. LA by beating Dodgers, 7-2, for their third NL pennant. Gary Matthews homers in third straight game.

October 9
1915: Woodrow Wilson becomes the first President to throw out the first ball at a World Series game. Boston's Rube Foster three-hits the Phillies and drives in the winning run in the ninth of a 2-1 win.
1976: First postseason game in Philadelphia since Oct. 5, 1950 is spoiled as the Reds win, 6-3, in the NLCS opener.
1981: Phillies stay alive in Division Series with 6-2 win over Expos at the Vet.
1993: Atlanta scores five in the sixth and four in the seventh to defeat Phillies, 9 4. Braves lead NLCS, 2-1.
2008 : A two-run homer by Chase Utley and solo blast by Burrell lead the Phillies to 3-2 win over Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS at Citizens Bank Park. Cole Hamels wins his second postseason game and Brad Lidge records his third save.

October 10
1976: Jim Lonborg carries a no-hitter into the sixth inning when the Reds score four times en route to a 6-2 NLCS win.
1980: Houston takes a 2-1 lead in NLCS with 1-0, 11-inning win on Dennis Walling's sacrifice fly in the Astrodome. The Phillies are on the verge of losing their fourth NLCS in five years.
1981: Steve Rogers pitches a six-hitter and drives in two runs as Expos win Division Playoffs, 3-0, at the Vet.
1993: Danny Jackson and Mitch Williams combine for a 2-1 win at Atlanta to tie NLCS at two games apiece.
2008: Brett Myers had three hits and three RBIs in beating the Dodgers, 8-5, in Game 2 of the NLCS. Lidge strikes out the side for his fourth save. Series headed to Dodger Stadium.

October 11
1915: Red Sox take a 2-1 lead with 2-1, three-hit win at Boston before 42,300, a World Series attendance record at the time.
1980: The Phillies rally for three in the eighth, the Astros tie it in the ninth, and the Phils win it with two runs in the 10th for a 5-3 final score. Greg Luzinski's pinch-hit double is the game-winning RBI. Pete Rose bowls over Bruce Bochy to score the winning run.
1983: Home runs by Joe Morgan and Garry Maddox give John Denny and Phillies a 2-1 win in Baltimore in the first "I-95" World Series game.
1993: Lenny Dykstra's home run in the top of the 10th inning sinks Atlanta, 4-3. Phillies lead NLCS, 3-2, with series returning to the Vet.
