BRADENTON, Fla. -- Chris Dickerson snapped a 3-3 tie with a single with one out in the eighth Saturday as the Pirates posted a 5-3 comeback win over the Phillies in front of 8,566 fans at McKechnie Field.
Cody Asche's leadoff homer in the fifth inning, the Phillies' third long ball of the game, had given Philadelphia a 3-2 lead.
A.J. Burnett hurled 5 1/3 tenacious innings in his longest start of the spring for the Phillies.
Facing his former Pittsburgh teammates for the second time this spring, Burnett allowed seven hits and also walked six. But he turned away the Bucs on two runs by repeatedly pitching out of trouble.
Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard launched solo homers in the first off right-hander Stolmy Pimentel, the second of the spring for both. For Howard, it was also his fifth in eight career spring games at McKechnie Field.
Barmes' fourth-inning sacrifice fly had briefly tied it at 2.
Pimentel, who had done most of his prior pitching this spring in non-Grapefruit League games, faulted himself for falling behind the three home run hitters.
"When you're behind in the count, it makes it more comfortable for the hitter," Pimentel said. "They were hitting counts, and they were just waiting for the pitches they hit.
"But my arm felt real good. I was using all my pitches," added Pimentel.
In the first three exhibitions between the in-state rivals, a total of 12 batters had been hit by pitches. There were no hit batters in Saturday's game.
The strong turnout marked a record attendance at McKechnie Field. It was also the Pirates' fourth straight sellout.
