"I was impressed with his composure," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said about Buchanan. "He came inside on a couple hitters after that to keep them honest. I thought he rebounded and minimized."
The Phillies jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tony Gwynn Jr. and Chase Utley doubled against Blue Jays right-hander Esmil Rogers.
It was Utley's first extra-base hit of the spring.
Rogers allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six in 4 2/3 innings. Buchanan allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while fanning six in four innings.
