Phillies promote Mizerock to assistant hitting coach

The Phillies completed their 2014 coaching staff on Wednesday, promoting former Major Leaguer John Mizerock to assistant hitting coach.

Mizerock, 53, coached the past three seasons with Class A Clearwater. Before joining the Phils in 2010, Mizerock spent 17 years in the Royals organization, including serving as bullpen coach (2002, 2008-09) and third-base coach (2003-04).

A 12-year Major League veteran, Mizerock appeared in games for the Astros (1983, '85-86) and Braves ('89). He was the No. 8 overall pick by Houston in the 1979 Draft out of Punxsutawney, Pa.
