Phillies Carpenter Cup Classic begins Monday, June 17


High school ballplayers will have the opportunity of a lifetime when the Phillies host their 28th Annual Baseball Carpenter Cup Classic beginning on Monday, June 17, 2013. Recognized nationally as one of the finest baseball tournaments for high school students, they will get to showcase their talents in front of scouts and college coaches throughout the tournament leading up to the final championship game.

Preliminary rounds will be played at Ashburn Field in FDR Park in South Philadelphia until Saturday, June 22. The semi-final and championship title games will again be played at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25. Last year's Carpenter Cup Classic champion was Burlington County.

All games are open to the public. Admission at each location is $5.

The Phillies also host a Softball Carpenter Cup, where top high school softball players get the chance to compete in front of college scouts. This four day, 30-game tournament begins on Monday, June 24, at FDR Park.

The Phillies Carpenter Cup began in 1986 and continues to be a vehicle to help promote the top area baseball players. Each year more than 400 high school players from the tri-state area are able to showcase their skills in front of major league scouts and more than 220 college coaches. The Carpenter Cup has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities.
