Phils follow one Colorado pick with another

PHILADELPHIA -- Another pick on Saturday, another high school pitcher from Colorado for the Phillies. And Colorado has been good to the Phillies -- think Roy Halladay and Brad Lidge.

The Phillies selected right-handed pitcher Griffin Jax with their 12th-round pick of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft (361st overall). Jax is from the Denver area, and the Phillies used their first choice of the afternoon on Denton Keys, a left-handed pitcher from Rye, Colo.

Jax was a standout at Cherry Creek High School, where he excelled on the mound and at third base. He is currently committed to play baseball for the Air Force Academy. Lidge also attended the same high school as Jax.

As a pitcher for Cherry Creek in 2013, Jax had a 1.74 ERA, limited opponents to a .191 batting average and struck out 57 hitters in 40 1/3 innings.

Jax was the fourth straight pitcher the Phillies had selected, starting with Shane Martin on Friday at 271.
