WASHINGTON -- It was a short but painful game for the Phillies' Kevin Frandsen on Sunday. The veteran infielder started at first base but was hit by a pitch in his first plate appearance and ejected after his second.

In the second inning, Frandsen squared to bunt against the Nationals' Stephen Strasburg, then couldn't escape a 95-mph fastball that hit him on the right hand. Frandsen looked to be in serious pain but managed to stay in the game and said afterward that he is fine.

But his stay wasn't long. In the fourth, he tried to check his swing on an 0-2 breaking ball in the dirt and was called out by home-plate umpire Mike Winters. Frandsen slammed his bat to the ground -- although he said that he didn't respond verbally -- and Winters quickly tossed him from the game.

"I made a mistake, obviously, and I got a ticket," Frandsen said. "There was no other way you can say it. He threw me out.

"I was upset. I play with emotion, and I guess it got the best of me on that."
