MIAMI -- The Phillies announced Wednesday that Brad Lidge will formally retire as a member of the Phillies before their Aug. 1 game against the Giants at Citizens Bank Park.
Lidge recorded the final out in Game 5 of the 2008 World Series to give the Phillies their second World Series championship in franchise history.
"I had my greatest moment at Citizens Bank Park and I would like to officially retire as a member of the Phillies organization," Lidge said in a statement.
Lidge will throw out the first pitch. He is hoping he throws the pitch to Carlos Ruiz.
