Phils stick with Mayberry in place of Revere

NEW YORK -- Ben Revere remained out of the lineup Saturday after missing the previous two games with left quadriceps soreness, and John Mayberry Jr. again started in center field in his place.

Mayberry is hitless in his last 11 at-bats and enters Saturday's game against the Mets hitting .236 (13-for-55) this season. Ezequiel Carrera, who the Phillies claimed off waivers from the Indians on April 2, started the first game Revere sat out on Thursday, but he has made few appearances for the Phillies and is 1-for-12, playing in 12 games.

Manager Charlie Manuel said he wanted to get a better look at Carrera, but Mayberry made both starts after Carrera went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Thursday's loss to Pittsburgh.

The right-handed-hitting Mayberry has better career numbers against left-handed pitchers, but is 10-for-41 (.244) this season against righties, better than his 3-for-14 (.214) clip against lefties. He went 0-for-4 in the series opener Friday against right-handers and faces another Saturday in Shaun Marcum.
