PHILADELPHIA -- It wasn't that long ago that manager Charlie Manuel was worried about not getting enough playing time for Freddy Galvis. The utility man had just three pinch-hit at-bats in the first 10 games.

That has changed dramatically. Galvis has started six of eight games since then, including the last three in left field. On Thursday and Friday, he was in the outfield because of Domonic Brown's sore back. Brown returned to the lineup Saturday night, but played in right.

In the first inning, Galvis jumped at the wall and made a catch to take extra bases away from Cardinals leadoff hitter Shane Robinson.

"What Freddy does for us ... we always talk about how old our players are," Manuel said. "Freddy gives you an opportunity to rest the second baseman [34-year-old Chase Utley], the shortstop [34-year-old Jimmy Rollins] and the third baseman [36-year-old Michael Young]. That's what he does.

"If we can find playing time for him two or three times a week, that would take a lot off them. And if he can play the outfield, we might even be able to find him more playing time. Myself, I think it's very important to play Freddy because I think he's going to be a real good player."
