Phillies right-hander Brett Myers starts Wednesday's series finale against the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park and is looking to have his third consecutive quality start. The bullpen would love to have that happen. The bullpen has been worked hard the previous two nights after Joe Blanton lasted just 4 1/3 innings Monday and Hamels lasted just 4 1/3 innings Tuesday.
Myers has thrown six innings or more in each of his four starts this season. Philadelphia really could use him to pitch at least into the seventh Wednesday.
Myers is 9-8 with a 4.30 ERA in 30 career appearances against the Nationals/Expos. He went 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA in four starts against the Nationals last season.Pitching matchup
PHI: RHP Brett Myers (1-1, 4.91 ERA)
Myers is looking for his first truly dominant performance of 2009, although his last two outings have been quality starts. Home runs continue to hurt him. Friday against the Marlins at Dolphin Stadium, he allowed a three-run home run to Dan Uggla in the first inning. Those would be the only three runs he allowed in six innings. Myers has allowed 26 hits this season, eight of them home runs. WSH: LHP Scott Olsen (0-3, 7.29 ERA)
Friday against the Mets, Olsen pitched well enough for his second consecutive quality start, but he ended up losing his third game of the season because of some shoddy defense. Olsen lasted six innings and gave up three runs, two of which were earned. Tidbits
