Left-hander Cole Hamels allowed four hits, one unearned run and struck out five in three innings.
The Phillies took a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Braves left-hander Paul Maholm. Ben Revere walked and Chase Utley singled to put runners at the corners. Howard doubled down the right-field line to score Revere. Young reached on an error, which scored Utley. And Domonic Brown's single to right scored Howard.
Howard and Brown continue to swing hot bats in camp.
Maholm allowed six hits, five runs, two walks and struck out two in 2 2/3 innings. Braves second baseman Tyler Pastornicky went 2-for-5 with four RBIs for the Braves, including a three-run homer in the seventh.
Up next for Phillies: Right-hander Roy Halladay makes his second Grapefruit League start at 1:05 p.m. ET on Friday against the Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The Phillies were encouraged with Halladay's effort in two innings in his debut last Sunday against the Tigers. They hope to see progress on Friday.
