Catcher Brian Schneider -- who caught 13 years with the Expos/Nationals organization, Mets and Phillies -- has decided to retire, according to his hometown newspaper, the Allentown Morning Call, on Tuesday.

Schneider, 36, caught more than 100 games for six straight seasons from 2003-08 with the Expos/Nats and Mets. He spent the past three seasons as the Phils' backup catcher and batted .225 with two home runs in 34 games last season.

Schneider retires as a .247 career hitter with 67 home runs in 1,048 games.
