Phillies quiet as waiver trade deadline passes

ATLANTA -- Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said he did not expect to make any moves before Friday's midnight ET waiver trade deadline, and as the deadline passed, no moves were made.

There had been a report outfielder Juan Pierre had cleared waivers, which would allow the Phillies to trade him if they wished.

"I had one brief conversation with a club," he said.

But that does not mean the club will not see a few new faces in the coming days. Rosters can expand beginning Saturday. Outfielder Nate Schierholtz (broken right big toe) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Saturday.

Callups from Triple-A Lehigh Valley or Double-A Reading are expected to come after their seasons are finished.

The Phillies aren't in a rush to make any callups.

"We want to see the guys who are here play," Amaro said.
