Martinez played in 88 games for the Phillies last season. He hit .196 with three homers, five doubles, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
Martinez began the season on the DL with a fractured right foot but recently began playing in games. In his one game with Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Martinez went 2-for-3 with an RBI. He also played in four rehab games with Class A Clearwater.
Galvis, who was filling in for the injured Chase Utley at second base, has batted .226 with three home runs this season and is fifth on the team with 24 RBIs. He has also been very impressive in the field.
Galvis' injury is yet another blow to a club that is already playing without Utley, Ryan Howard and Roy Halladay.
"Another one of our guys going down," manager Charlie Manuel said after Wednesday's loss. "What more can I say?"
