SAN DIEGO -- A doctor will examine Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard on Monday and redress the wound in his left heel, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Friday. Then the Phillies will learn if Howard can start more baseball activities. "We'll find out more Monday," Amaro said. Howard has been taking ground balls, throwing and participating in weight training while on the disabled list, but he has yet to hit or run. He also visited the same wound specialist on Monday in Philadelphia.
Howard underwent surgery on Feb. 27 after an infection developed following an initial procedure to repair his ruptured left Achilles' tendon in October. There's no timetable for his return.
