SAN DIEGO -- Phillies manager Charlie Manuel indicated second baseman Freddy Galvis could stay with the team after Chase Utley returns from his knee issues, rather than going to the Minors.
Manuel praised Galvis' defense -- such as the double play he started with shortstop Jimmy Rollins in the ninth inning on Thursday.
"I'm not even thinking that way," Manuel said about the possibility of Galvis going to Triple-A when Utley returns. Manuel noted Galvis could sometimes play second base and spell Rollins at shortstop.
The team will see Utley next week in Phoenix during their series against the D-backs. Utley has been rehabbing his knee issues in Phoenix and is expected to begin a rehab stint in the Minors before coming off the disabled list. Manuel said he has heard positive reports about Utley's rehab.
