CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Right-hander Michael Pineda made his Yankees Grapefruit League debut on Monday afternoon in a 9-3 loss to the Phillies at Bright House Field, allowing one hit and striking out two across two innings.

Philadelphia right-hander Joe Blanton, trying to bounce back from a right elbow injury that cost him much of last season, made his spring debut and allowed two hits, recording five ground-ball outs and one strikeout in two innings.

The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the third, when Placido Polanco singled to center field off reliever David Robertson to score Jimmy Rollins, who walked and stole second and third.

The Yankees pulled even with a fifth-inning run, courtesy of Jayson Nix's sacrifice fly to bring home Russell Martin, who led off the frame with a walk and a stolen base. Also in the fifth, Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez departed with a right hand contusion after being struck by an Austin Hyatt pitch. Precautionary X-rays taken in Tampa, Fla., were negative.

New York jumped ahead the next inning, when Brett Gardner led off with a triple and raced home on a throwing error by second baseman Kevin Frandsen.

In a six-run bottom of the sixth, the Phillies took advantage of Adam Miller's wildness, scoring five runs off the right-hander, who recorded one out, walked three and hit a batter. Hector Luna broke it open later in the frame with a three-run double off Juan Cedeno. Michael Martinez hit a two-run homer off Cedeno in the seventh.

Up next: The Phillies take a short bus ride to Dunedin, Fla., to play the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Cliff Lee makes his Grapefruit League debut. Pitchers Kyle Kendrick, Jeremy Horst, Michael Schwimer and J.C. Ramirez will also make their first appearances of the spring.
