CINCINNATI -- As expected, Brad Lidge was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. The Phillies' closer started the season on the DL after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Feb. 25. He appeared in Minor League exhibition games, and made one appearance with Class A Clearwater on Thursday. Acquired in a November trade from Houston, Lidge went 5-3 with 19 saves and a 3.36 ERA in 66 relief appearances last season with the Astros.
He's ready to begin his Phillies career. "It's great to be pitching for a new team, but at the same time I had a lot of good memories from Houston," Lidge said. "Coming to a team that is going to play as well as we think is huge for me. It's going to be an electric atmosphere."
