Castro makes first big league start

Fabio Castro's first five relief appearances this season, when the erratic lefty walked five batters in 3 1/3 innings, earned him a demotion to Triple-A Ottawa.

The Phillies hope Castro has figured out enough with the Lynx to help the team reach the postseason for the first time since 1993. He's being counted on in the final game of the series against the Dodgers.

Castro was placed in the Lynx rotation last month, and has posted a 4.23 ERA in six starts.

"We'll find out [if he's ready]," assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "Fabio's been in the big leagues. He's pitched in tight situations last year. We'll give him the ball and see how he handles it."

Los Angeles counters with Chad Billingsley, a righty who has lost four consecutive decisions. Billingsley has a 7.20 ERA in one career start against the Phillies without a decision.
