Ruiz set for first full season in Majors

Ruiz prepares for first full season in Majors

The 2007 season figures to be a significant one for Carlos Ruiz as the 28-year-old backstop is slated to spend his first full year in the Major Leagues.

Ruiz, who appeared in 27 games for the Phillies in 2006, is currently preparing for the upcoming season by logging time with the Tigres del Licey of the Dominican Winter League.

The Tigres, who went 31-19 during the regular season, are one of four DWL teams competing in the 18-game round-robin playoff tournament. The club split the first six games of the tournament, and Ruiz has appeared in five of them. The Panama native has collected five hits over 18 postseason at-bats, with two runs scored and an RBI.

Ruiz is one of many players in the Phillies organization playing professional baseball in January. Here's an update on Philadelphia players currently honing their skills in the Dominican Winter, Mexican Pacific and Venezuelan Winter Leagues.
