Gordon activated; Mathieson on DL

Right-handed pitcher Tom Gordon was reinstated from the 15-day DL, while right-handed pitcher Scott Mathieson was placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained right elbow which occurred during his start last night, Assistant General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced this morning.

In addition, right-handed relief pitchers Brian Sanches and Clay Condrey were recalled from triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will be in uniform for this afternoon's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves.

Sanches, 28, is with the Phillies for the fourth time this season. He was last optioned to Scranton on August 25. He was 3-2 with 19 saves and a 1.85 ERA in 36 games with Scranton. Sanches held opponents to a .164 average. Earlier, he established a Scranton record by retiring 30 straight batters, April 14-May 9.

Condrey, 30, is with the Phillies for the third time this season. He was 4-2 with 1 save and a 1.93 ERA in 39 games with Scranton. He had not allowed an earned run since August 10, a streak of 10.0 innings over 9 games. Earlier, he had a 20.2-inning scoreless streak with Scranton, April 14-July 2.
