Phils claim Minor League infielder from Tribe

The Phillies claimed Minor League infielder Carlos Rivero from the Indians on Wednesday, the Tribe officially announced.

Rivero, 22, batted .232 with six home runs and 43 RBIs in 110 games with Double-A Akron last season while starting 107 games at shortstop and making 28 errors.

The Venezuela native is a career .255 hitter with 31 homers in 518 Minor League games over five seasons.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound shortstop was originally signed by Cleveland in 2005 as an amateur free agent.
