PHILADELPHIA -- Chase Utley's hitting streak reached 31 games on Sunday night, when he singled in the second game of a doubleheader against the Marlins.
Utley gave the Phillies a 3-2 lead with an RBI single in the sixth inning off Marlins starter Brian Moehler. The All-Star second baseman tied Ed Delahanty's second-place club mark set in 1899.
Utley has the longest hitting streak in the Majors this season and is 25 away from equaling Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio's Major League record of 56 straight set in 1941.
In Game 1, Utley led off the fourth against Anibal Sanchez with a fly ball into the sun. Center fielder Cody Ross lost it at first, and couldn't recover in time to make the catch. It fell in for a double, extending Utley's hit streak to 30.
