PHILADELPHIA -- Chase Utley continued his chase of history and gave the Phillies a little cushion in the process.
On Saturday night against the Marlins, Utley extended his hitting streak to 29 games, nine short of teammate Jimmy Rollins' club record streak of 38 set in 2005-06. Utley is just two away from Ed Delahanty's second-place mark of 31 set back in 1899.
After he flied out in his first at-bat, Utley drove Florida starter Dontrelle Willis' 0-1 pitch into center field for a single and brought the fans at Citizens Bank Park to their feet. The base hit drove in two and gave the Phillies a 4-1 lead in the third inning.
Utley has the longest hitting streak in the Majors this season and is 27 away from equaling Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio's Major League record of 56 straight set in 1941.
