Manuel offers take on facing Braves rookie

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he learned sometime after 3 p.m. ET the Braves had scratched Jair Jurrjens from his scheduled start Monday against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Rookie Brandon Beachy, making his big league debut, took his place.

Asked if he had a scouting report on Beachy, Manuel said, "He's 6-3, 215 [pounds]."

Manuel said Beachy pitched once this season against Triple-A Lehigh Valley, so they have people in the organization who have seen him.

"We ain't got no excuse," Manuel said. "You've got to throw it over the plate."
