Phillies take Rookie Gulf Coast League title

DENVER -- The Rookie Gulf Coast League Phillies beat the GCL Rays, 10-4, in the rubber match of the three-game series Thursday to claim the championship.

Tim Brown got the win for the Phillies, throwing 7 2/3 innings of one-run, two-hit ball to secure the series comeback after falling behind when the Rays took the opener.

Right fielder Brian Gump went 3-for-5 and knocked in four runs to pace the offense. Five other Phillies had multihit games, including first baseman Christopher Duffy, who was also 3-for-5.
