Pirates at the plate:
Rajal Davis scored the first Pittsburgh run when he was hit by a pitch and scored on Jeromy Burnitz's single. Pittsburgh did most of its damage in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three runs in each frame. Yurendell DeCaster singled in two runs during a three-run fifth. Gookie Dawkins provided the winning run with a solo homer in the 10th.
Phillies at the plate:
Chris Coste continued his push for a roster spot with a pair of two-run homers. His second two-run shot tied the game at 8 off Britt Reames with two outs in the ninth. Bobby Abreu shook off the rust from the World Baseball Classic by stroking three hits, including a double.
Pirates on the mound:
Lefty Tom Gorzelanny worked the first three innings, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and no walks. He struck out five. Former Phillie Roberto Hernandez worked an inning, allowing one run on two hits, while walking none and striking out one.
Phillies on the mound:
Ryan Madson worked a little harder on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out six. He had to work out of jams in the first and second innings. Ricardo Rodriguez and Ryan Cameron uncorked two wild pitches apiece in their respective innings, and each allowed three runs.
Grapefruit League records:
Pirates 12-7; Phillies 12-4.
Jon Lieber makes his third Grapefruit League appearance on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. ET against the Reds in Sarasota. Lieber has allowed three earned runs on 10 hits in six innings. Rheal Cormier, Julio Santana and Arthur Rhodes are also scheduled to pitch.
The Pirates return home to Bradenton to face the Blue Jays on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
