Ruiz dazed after broken bat hits him in head
PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz left Friday's 9-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins after the eighth inning after Jason Kubel's broken bat slammed him in the side of the head.
Ruiz was wearing his catcher's mask and helmet at the time, but it still knocked him to the ground. He left the field under his own power, but went to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for evaluation to see if he needed any scans.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Ruiz was dazed after the hit.
