Schneider activated; Phils designate Hoover

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies on Monday activated catcher Brian Schneider from the 15-day disabled list.

They designated catcher Paul Hoover for assignment to make room for Schneider on the 25-man roster.

The Phillies placed Schneider, 33, on the disabled list May 9 because of a strained left Achilles. He went 0-for-8 with a walk in three rehab appearances with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He is hitting .167 (3-for-18) with two walks and three runs scored this season for Philadelphia.

Hoover hit .278 (5-for-18) with two doubles, two RBIs and six runs scored in six games for the Phillies.
