Ruiz out, but available in emergency

MILWAUKEE -- Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz, who sprained a ligament in his right knee Wednesday in Colorado, remained out of the lineup Saturday at Miller Park, although the Phillies said he remained available in an emergency.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Ruiz might need a few days before he is ready to play on an everyday basis.

Phillies catcher Brian Schneider, who the team placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left Achilles, said he feels much better. He is running and catching. It seems he could rejoin the team when he is eligible to be activated on May 24.
